The Final Act of Folly.

Just less than a year ago, in the week immediately following the General Election, the National Press and TV concentrated themselves on the machinations going on in Westminster as the leaders of the various political parties conducted the horse trading that eventually led to the formation of the Coalition Government.

The discredited Labour government had been roundly rejected by the electorate, they had lost more seats in one night than in any other election in history and only the most myopic supporter could make a case that they should continue in government.

During that period of haitus, the outgoing government remained in place taking the day to day decisions that needed to be taken, you would have thought that being in the position that they were in, the Labour ministers would at least have consulted with David Cameron and his team on anything contentious, indeed it would have been understandable if they has said that they would defer any controverial decisions until after the government had been formed.

However, more or less unseen by the press or anyone else, during the weekend following the election, supported by Ed Balls and Ed Milliband, Alistair Darling, Chancellor of the Exchequer and puppet to Gordon Brown, sloped off the Europe to have a conference with other finance ministers.

As part ofd that conference, Darling signed us up to be part of the  European stability pact. It wasn't widely reported at the time, the press were more interested in the love-in between David Cameron and the Cleggmeister, but how that final act of folly has already come home to roost.

By signing up to this "pact", Darling commited this country to being part of the "bail out" contributors to every lame duck economy in Europe. Greece and Ireland have already had billions from us, this week Portugal has come cap in hand needing cash, it is estimated that they will get £3 billion from this country alone, and that is without the spectre of both Spain and Italy on the horizon who both have debt mountains that make the others pale into insignificance.

So not content with bankrupting our economy, Darling and his cronies have committed us to being the money box for the rest of the Eurozone countries, even when we are not part of the Euro. That final act of folly must be bodering on the illegal, he certainly had no mandate to sign up to such a deal, he apparently ignored George Osborne who pleaded with him not to sign.

Where will the arrogance of these New Labour politicians end.

Hoist on their own Petard

After months of denying any wrongdoing, the Sainted Tessa, has finally admitted after all that she did owe Sedgemoor District Council money for falsely claiming discount on her council tax. Richard Kay of the Daily Mail has written this week that the Munter from Mark despite her holier than thou act, has coughed up the two and a half grand that she owed in council tax. (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-1365951/RICHARD-KAY.html?ito=feeds-newsxml)  Unbelievably the shameless Ms Munt had been claiming 25% single persons discount on her Council Tax despite having a string of men including a Radio DJ, a doctor that she has allegedly been having an affair with and a member of the Madelline McCann team living in her house.

In her statement to Richard Kay she reckons that she had coughed up to save the council spending more money in persuing her, but in the same article it states that Sedgemoor Council were in the process of taking the dear lady to court for unpaid council tax when she decided to pay up. I wonder where the truth lies?

So after months of denying that she was doing anything wrong, and getting her local mouthpiece Garfield Kennedy to back her up to the hilt via his hateful website, she has now seen the light and paid what she owed. She damn well ought to pay back every penny that Sedgemoor has spent so far in persuing her, the officer time alone must run into hundreds of pounds.

Fighting an election campaign promising to be whiter that white, whilst at the same time claiming a discount that you are not entitled to smacks of hypocrisy in the extreme, an honourable politican would resign in shame, I'm not holding my breath that the shameless Ms Munt will do the honourable thing.

The Promised Land

Over five thousand years ago Moses said to the children of Israel "Pick up your shovel, mount your asses and camels, and I will lead you to the Promised Land."

Nearly 50 years ago, Harold Wilson said, "Lay down your shovels, sit on your asses, light up a camel; this is the Promised Land."
Then the Somerset Liberal Democrats sold your shovel, taxed your asses, raised the price of camels, and mortgaged the Promised Land.

Lib Dems hit all time low.

The triumphant return to Wells bandwagon by the Lib Dem leader suffered a serious derailment this week when the Lib Dems suffered their most crushing defeat so far at the Barnsley by-election. The by-election triggered by the resignation of a disgraced Labour expenses fiddler saw the Lib Dems reduced from 2nd to 6th place by the voters, with such a paltry return that they lost their £500 deposit as well!

A Labour win was never in doubt, Barnsley has elected Labour MP's since the 1930's it was recently said that a donkey with a red rosette would get elected there, however for a party to go from the main opposition to also rans in the space of ten months, coming in behind the BNP and a local Independent with no party machine behind him must be worrying for the Cleggmeister.

What a change since the general election campaign when the Liberals were up to 35% in some polls after the television debates, now the electorate can see what they are truly like, support has plummeted to single figures, down to as low as 8% in a recent poll.

The Lib Dem blogs were full of vitriol against their leader yesterday, there were numerous calls for Clegg to go, many feeling that he is leading them into oblivion and that the Conservatives are using the Liberals as a human shield. Their spring conference will make entertaining viewing next week, I can hear the knives being sharpened already.

With local Lib Dems deserting in droves, now up to three after two recent resignations, the question has to be asked "are they a party in terminal decline?"
